How To Lighten Hair With No Bleach

Every so often, we get the urge to change up something about ourselves. Whether it is a new outfit, a change of jewelry, or switching up the menu at home, the desire to do something different is natural. Sometimes, those changes may be small, like a new pair of earrings, or more drastic, like new hair color. For those with lighter shades of hair, getting a new color is a relatively simple process. What about people with darker hair?

Although bleach is an option, some people are hesitant to risk the damage. However, several options can lighten hair 1-2 shades without damage! Keep reading to see these options and pick the one that is right for you.

One option is a mixture of honey and cinnamon. That’s right, honey and cinnamon! Mix an equal amount of the two in a bowl and apply to the hair. Leave this on for a minimum of four hours, then wash it out. If you want lighter results, simply repeat this process! Of course, this does have downsides. This is a very time-consuming process with minor results. Another downside is that insects may be attracted to the sticky, sweet substance.

If you are looking for something quick that will not gather new friends, try baking soda mixed with hydrogen peroxide. Mix the two together until the paste is of a creamy consistency. Apply to the hair (be sure to wear gloves) and cover with a plastic bag or shower cap and leave it on for 30-60 minutes. Your hair should be up to 2 shades lighter once this has been rinsed out. This can also be done with baking soda and water, but the results will be far less visible.

This process can be repeated if you want a lighter color but be sure to wait at least a week to give your hair a chance to rest. As with any lightening treatment, it is important to keep your hair moisturized. One of the best methods for keeping moisture in the hair is a deep conditioner treatment.

Once your hair is the color desired, there are no limits to what you can do! You may choose to leave it the lighter shade, or you may take this as the perfect chance to play with color. Whatever you decide, have fun!
