Differences Between Crochet and Knit

What are the differences between crochet and knit? It is best to have an understanding of the similarity between the two. Both are done with yarn and a decent amount of time, depending on the project. That is really where the similarities end. Let's now look into the differences between crochet and knit.

First, we will look into crochet. This is done with a single "needle" called a crochet hook. Some terms to keep in mind are Single Crochet, Double Crochet, Slip Stitch, and most importantly, Chains. Without the chain stitch, you really can't complete much. This is the foundation of crocheting. You can create a "knit" looking type stitch while using crochet. The best thing about crocheting is that the projects tend to work up faster than crochet. You can create almost everything using crochet. Great projects are stuffed animals, blankets, pillows, and bikini tops, to name a few.

Knit is created using two long needles. Like crochet, it does have a foundation chain that is worked up differently. The stitches are pretty repetitive and easy to remember, unlike crochet. Projects tend to take longer to complete when you knit. Moment and flexibility are limited. Perfect projects for knitting include blankets and scarves. These are fairly easy to make.

Overall, these two are fairly different. The only thing in common that is found is yarn in order to make something, scissors, and possibly stitch markers to keep your place. Crochet is commonly confused for knitting. There are differences in the number and type of needles used for each and the terms and techniques as well. Try crochet if you would like to complete a project quicker or if you have a strict time limit to have it completed.
